| Server Based Spam Identifier |
GENERAL INFO Miami County Internet Onramp, Inc is offering a server based spam identifier in order to help our customers filter out spam messages from wanted e-mail. One e-mail may be considered spam to most customers, but that same message may be wanted by another customer. Keeping this in mind we are not going to prevent messages from getting to their designated recipient.
We have installed software and configured our server to rate e-mail messages based on their general content and if their "score" is above our designated number, that message will be marked as spam then delivered to the intended customer. The original message will be saved as an attachment and the original message text will be replaced with a spam warning and the scoring system used to determine that it is likely spam. By default any message that scored a 5 or more is flagged as spam. The attachment may still be opened to review the original message if desired.
The software can be customized to an individual account to be more or less strict with its assessment of e-mail messages including allowing or flagging messages as spam based on the sender and/or key words.
OUR PRICING Due to the special programming required to set up a customer account for spam identification and the ongoing maintenance of the software on the server we are charging a monthly fee of $3.00 per account for this service. Please contact John or Lois in the office at 913-294-2777 to subscribe to this service. FILTERING
Outlook Express can be easily configured to filter incoming messages. Please follow the instructions below to filter the messages identified as likely spam and have them placed into your Deleted Items folder for easy deletion. Please note that your incoming messages will not be processed for spam content by the server until you have subscribed to the service for $3.00 per month per account.
Open Outlook Express. Click on TOOLS, MESSAGE RULES, MAIL then click on NEW. In Item #1 place a check mark next to "Where the subject line..." by clicking on the box to the left. In Item #2 place a check mark next to "Move it to..." by clicking on the box to the left. In Item #3 click on "contains specific words" then on the blank line type *****SPAM***** and click ADD then click OK. Note that is 5 stars (shift 8) then SPAM in all uppercase then another 5 stars, no spaces or any other characters. Click on "specified", click on "Deleted Items" to hi-lite it then click OK and OK again.
From now on, as long as you have subscribed to our spam identification service, all messages that our server identifies as likely spam will be placed into your Deleted Items folder when you check your e-mail. You may review these messaged if you desire by opening that folder or delete them all at once by right clicking on the folder and then clicking Empty Deleted Items Folder. We recommend that you review these messages for a period of time to just make sure that a message you want has not been identified as spam.
