Setting up your internet connection is about a 5 minute process with Windows 98 or ME. You will need the yellow sheet of information that we gave you when you signed up for your MCIO account. Keep the yellow signup receipt with your important papers or computer related materials.
Refer to image at left. First Locate the "Start" button in the lower left side of your desktop. Click "start", Click "Settings" and then Click "Control Panel".
In the "Control Panel" there is an icon called "Internet Properties" Double Left Click it open.
You will notice that "Internet Properties" has several "tabs" at the top. Click the "tab" that says "Connections"
Near the top of "Connections" there is a button called "Setup". See Image at left. Click "Setup". This will start the "Internet Connection Wizard" that will walk you through the process of setting up your MCIO connection.
On the Welcome screen for the "Internet Connection Wizard" Click the little round "radio" button number three, "I want to setup my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)". Then Click the "Next" button in lower right corner of the wizard. The next screen (see below) will ask if you want to connect through a modem or LAN... Make sure the radio button that says "I connect through a phone line and modem" is checked on. Then click the "Next" button in the lower right.
The next screen is where you put the phone number you are dialing.

Enter local number for your area. In Kansas City metro use the complete number including area code. You don't need to put a dash or anything else in there. MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK the box that says "Dial using country code and area code. When you uncheck the box everything is greyed out except the phone number. Click the "Next button in lower right.
Skip to next section if you are NOT dialing long distance.
If you are dialing MCIO using "Info Link" and accessing MCIO using a fixed rate long distance service or you are in another area of the country and wish to dial MCIO using long distance. TYPE THE ENTIRE NUMBER IN THE "TELEPHONE NUMBER FIELD" Example: 19132949666 Again, MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK the box that says "Dial using country code and area code. Everything will be greyed out except the phone number. Click "Next" button
In this box, type in your username and password. This information is on the front of your yellow copy of the MCIO User Agreement we gave you when you signed up. Text is entered entirely in lowercase letters. Then click "Next"
The box above will default to Connection to 2949666 (or whatever number you entered. It will be highlighted. Press the delete key on your keyboard and then type MCIO in uppercase letters. This makes it easier to find your connection if you ever need to. Press the "Next" button in the lower right of the screen.
If you use hotmail or another webbased service for your email your MCIO dialup connection is complete. Click the "No" radio button and it will finish. If you wish to continue and setup your Outlook Express Email program make sure "Yes" is checked in the box above and click "Next" in lower right of screen.
