I thought the Ossa looked
too nice to get dirty but Fred purchased it just to compete.
This last weekend Fred Hunter competed in the International Six Days Trial ReUnion Ride in Arkansas, a 2-day dirt bike event that featured 60 miles of rugged trails each day plus 5 Special Tests (competitive races). ISDT rules were used, meaning bike impound on Friday, no one but you could touch your bike or supply parts or tools for the next two days; trail scores and race scores added together to determine placements; top 10% received Gold Medals; next 15% received Silver Medals; next 25% received Bronze.
About 20 past and current United States ISDT team members were present (and most competed), along with a bunch of folks like Fred who used to do this stuff competitively 20-25 years ago; Dick Mann and Tom Penton are a couple of the more famous ones you might recognize. Fred rode his 1973 Ossa SDR (Six Days Replica) and was fortunate enough to bring home a Silver Medal. Jeff DeBell also won a silver medal. It was an event for vintage bikes as well as vintage riders...the Ossa was the 5th oldest bike there.
CONGRATULATIONS FRED AND JEFF!
Fred took the Ossa SDR out to Harpers for the fall Vintage Motocross event Sunday November 5. In one moto (lined up with 12 bikes, including 400 CZ, 400 Maico, 450 Kawasaki, 360 Bultaco Persang, etc.), he got the hole shot with his 250 Ossa SDR, lights and all. Fred really can't understand it; the Ossa has a lot of low-end torque, but almost NO top end--he short-shifts a lot. The 400 Maico powered by him on a straight-away on the third lap so he only got a 2nd in that moto, and a 2nd in the next moto also, but had to fight his way up through the pack for that one. Ended up 1st overall in the +50 class for the day. Fred says that was fun...may have to do it again, next year.
AGAIN CONGRATULATIONS!
